Renactment of a skirmish that was likely to have occurred in the Russo-Japanese War. Opens with an establishing scene entitled "A Japanese outpost on the Yalu River," which shows the Japanese soldiers of the infantry outpost doing rifle drills and raising the flag. Following scenes are entitled "The Attack," "The Capture," and "The Retreat". In them, the Japanese fire their cannon; the Russian infantry demolish the camp, replace the Japanese flag with their own, and then fire their rifles at the enemy; and the Japanese recapture the outpost and once again run up their flag. Sang-hun, a painter, and Yeong-hun, a doctor, are brothers. Sang-hun's girlfriend left him for another man, and he draws her portrait everyday. Yeong-hun, the older of the two, makes a medical mistake, and his young patient dies. Because of the guilty conscience, he abandons the career as a doctor and devotes himself to writing a novel. However, the brothers have high self-esteem and finally overcome their weaknesses to make a fresh start.

Binh is a South Vietnamese soldier whose wife Nga turns to a life of prostitution after Binh is classified as missing. When Binh does return, he finds it impossible to forgive the repentant Nga. The couple's doomed future continues, as Binh joins the Vietnamese Special Forces and a friend struggles to reunite the two.

Six men. The forest. The menace is there somewhere. Armed, ready, looking for action, they wander, day and night, striving for a confrontation.
